Greek Cypriot negotiator Menelaos Menelaou and Gunes Onar, the Special Representative of the Turkish Cypriot leader, will have a new meeting on Thursday.
According to CNA sources, the meeting will be held at 11.00 am (local time). It will be a continuation of the discussions ahead of the expanded meeting scheduled to take place next month in Geneva, the sources added.
The two negotiators had met last week over dinner hosted by the UN Deputy Secretary-General for Political Affairs and Peacebuilding, Rosemary Di Carlo. The UN official was in Cyprus to facilitate communication between the two sides leading up to the meeting concerning the Cyprus issue, which is under UN auspices. She also visited Athens and Ankara last week.
The objective of the dinner with the negotiators was to continue preparations for the expanded meeting.
Last Saturday, Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides said that there was an update about minor changes regarding the dates of the expanded meeting, adding that the United Nations were expected to announce the dates.
Cyprus has been divided since 1974, when Turkey invaded and occupied its northern third. Repeated rounds of UN-led peace talks have so far failed to yield results. The latest round of negotiations, in July 2017 at the Swiss resort of Crans-Montana ended inconclusively.
