Fuel prices influenced by global markets
Christodoulos Christodoulou, spokesperson for the Gas Station Association, spoke on “Mesimeri kai Kati” about current fuel prices in Cyprus. He noted that prices are mainly driven by international developments and global markets.
Current oil prices and expected increases
Christodoulou said that oil was priced at $59 per barrel but has now stabilized around $65. He added that “it is logical that the next shipments will bring increases in fuel prices.”
When asked when these increases might appear, he said, “We cannot know exactly how it will show, but it is reasonable to expect a rise soon.”
Price range and potential increases
Currently, fuel prices are around €1.31–1.33 per litre, while recently they reached €1.35. Christodoulou said, “We do not know exactly how much the price will rise. Likely it will increase by 2–3 or 4–5 cents per litre. That is the expected range.”
He added that the €1.33 price for heating oil is still very good. “Even if it rises by 4–6 cents, it will remain reasonable. Compared to older prices of €1.60–1.80, it is still affordable. People can still purchase fuel at current levels.”
Christodoulou explained that companies receive shipments every 10–15 weeks. “It is possible that the next deliveries will lead to price increases,” he said.
Saving on fuel
Asked if people save money by filling up less often, Christodoulou said this is not the case. “The data remain the same. There is no real saving. Prices were good in 2024, and even with upcoming increases, they remain at reasonable levels.”
