Deputy Minister for Shipping Marina Hadjimanoli announced Cyprus’s candidacy for re-election to the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Council in Category C for the 2026-2027 term.
The announcement, regarding the election process set to take place in 2025, was made during a reception hosted by the Deputy Minister at the IMO headquarters on the south bank of the Thames in London on Wednesday evening.
The Cypriot invitation was honored by representatives and officials from most member states of the IMO, including Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez.
“Our candidacy reflects our continued commitment to serving the Organization, its members, and the global shipping industry, as we have done since 1987 when we were first elected to the Council,” Ms. Hadjimanoli told CNA on the sidelines of the reception.
“We once again hope for the support of our global partners and are confident that we can continue collaborating to tackle the challenges facing shipping today and chart a sustainable course for the future,” she added.
In a brief address during the reception, she reaffirmed “Cyprus’s commitment to addressing the challenges faced by the global maritime industry and seizing the opportunities that arise.”
