Cypriot jailed for burglary spree in London

Date:

A 42-year-old Cypriot resident of Potters Bar received a prison sentence for a series of business burglaries. Michalis Georgiou appeared before Hatfield Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 9 December.

He pleaded guilty to three burglary charges. The court also took six additional offences into consideration. Judges imposed 26 weeks imprisonment, plus 12 weeks from an activated suspended sentence. Georgiou will serve 38 weeks in total.

Burglary details

The break-ins occurred in two separate periods between November 2024 and December 2025. They caused significant disruption to the local business community.

Hertsmere’s Criminal Investigation Team, working with Neighbourhood Policing officers, identified Georgiou through extensive CCTV footage.

Arrest and evidence

Police issued a warrant and arrested him on Sunday, 7 December. Officers located him with assistance from a neighbouring force.

A search of his last known address recovered clothing that matched items worn during the burglaries, according to police.

Georgiou appeared in court the following day to face charges.

Police statement

Lead investigator Detective Sergeant Christina Goulias welcomed the outcome. She highlighted the considerable distress and financial loss caused to local business owners.

The officer described the prison sentence as a fair conclusion. She added that it offers Georgiou time to reflect on his actions.
