The contribution of the Cypriot diaspora in the UK and its role as a bridge between London and Nicosia was highlighted during an event held at the British Parliament, organised by the UK-Cyprus Enterprise Council (UKCEC).

The gathering focused on the historical presence and ongoing influence of Cypriots in the United Kingdom, as well as their growing role in business and bilateral cooperation.

Strong community values and economic impact

UKCEC President Peter Droussiotis, the keynote speaker, underlined the long-standing contribution of the Cypriot diaspora in the UK, describing it as rooted in hard work, resilience, entrepreneurship and cooperation.

He said these values are not abstract concepts but a lived reality, visible in successful businesses, professional sectors and opportunities created for both Cypriots and the wider UK society.

He also stressed that the community strengthens British institutions and contributes to the country’s economic prosperity.

Droussiotis highlighted the international reach of the diaspora, noting its influence extends from London to Cyprus, Europe and the United States.

He described the UK-Cyprus Enterprise Council as a “bridge between the two countries” and a platform for collaboration and innovation, emphasising that cooperation leads to greater success.

He also addressed younger generations, urging them to carry forward this legacy with responsibility, ensuring future opportunities are matched with a sense of duty.

The event was attended by the High Commissioner of the Republic of Cyprus in the UK, Dr Kyriakos Kouros, British MPs, business leaders, and representatives from academic and professional sectors.

Speakers highlighted the role of the Cypriot diaspora in the UK in economic growth, innovation and strengthening bilateral ties, with special emphasis on the contribution of younger Cypriots.
