Jewellery and diamonds worth €41,163 were found in the luggage of a Greek Cypriot passenger arriving from Dubai who chose the green customs channel marked “Nothing to declare” without declaring the items.
The goods were seized, while the passenger subsequently paid €15,000 in customs duties, taxes and an out-of-court settlement, according to the Customs Department.
Jewellery and diamonds found during luggage check
The incident occurred on 2 October 2026, when Customs Department officers selected the passenger for a luggage inspection after his arrival from Dubai.
A physical check uncovered 31 pieces of jewellery, including one set of earrings, one pendant, 10 rings, 17 bracelets and two necklaces. Officers also found 13 diamonds and 32 jewellery certificates.
The items had not been declared to customs for the payment of the applicable duties and taxes.
Passenger pays €15,000
The goods were seized. On 9 October 2026, a subsequent customs and other debt assessment was issued.
The passenger paid €10,000 in customs duties and taxes, together with an additional financial charge and interest.
His request to settle the offence out of court was also accepted, subject to a further payment of €5,000.
The total amount collected from the passenger was therefore €15,000.
