Authorities are reminding citizens to prepare their mobile devices to receive notifications through the CY-Alert system, urging users to update their software and ensure emergency alert settings are activated.
The CY-Alert system is Cyprus’ national early warning platform, designed to send emergency notifications to the public during critical situations, helping provide immediate information and protection.
Android device instructions
Android users are advised to first check that their devices have the latest software version installed by selecting Software Update through their Settings menu.
After updating, CY-Alert settings can be found under Personal Safety and Emergency Features, specifically within Wireless Emergency Alerts, where users can select the notifications they wish to receive.
If the relevant settings do not appear, users should go to Settings, select Security and Privacy, then Updates and Google Play System Update, and restart their device afterwards.
iPhone instructions
Apple iPhone users should ensure they have the latest iOS version installed by selecting:
Settings > General > Software Update.
They can then access:
Settings > Notifications
and, at the bottom of the screen, activate or deactivate the emergency alerts they wish to receive.

Authorities stressed that correctly activating emergency notifications is essential to ensure citizens receive immediate critical information during natural disasters, extreme weather events or other emergencies.
