From Crisis to Control: How HOTHREAT is responding to CBRNe (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosive) threats in the hospitality sector

Nicosia, April 4, 2025 – The Center for Social Innovation (CSI) and the Nicosia Tourism Board are co-organizing the event “From Crisis to Control: How HOTHREAT is responding to CBRNe (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosive) threats in the hospitality sector”, which will take place on Thursday, April 10, 2025, at Cleopatra Hotel in Nicosia, from 10:00 to 12:30.

The event aims to inform and prepare tourism and security professionals regarding chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosive (CBRNe) threats that may affect hotels and conference centers. With the participation of experts from the University of Lodz and Sigoria Security Solutions, the event is organized within the framework of the European project HOTHREAT.

The event is addressed to experts and academics in the field of security and CBRNe threats, risk management professionals, hotel managers and responsible personnel, security officers, as well as hotel housekeeping supervisors—who are often on the front line when it comes to identifying suspicious items and substances.

Speakers at the event include:

  • Annita Demetriadou, Director of the Deputy Ministry of Tourism
  • Fire Chief Mr. Andreas Christofi, Fire Department
  • Perseas Koutrouzas, representative of the Cyprus Police

Following the official speeches, the event will focus on the following thematic areas:

  • The HOTHREAT Project: An overview of the project and its relevance to the hotel and conference sectors
  • Best practices for addressing CBRNe threats, based on research from HOTHREAT
  • Emergency management apps and technological innovations

presented by security and technology experts from the University of Lodz and Sigoria

Participation in the event is free of charge and will conclude with an open discussion and networking opportunities over finger food for the attendees.
