Cloudy skies with isolated showers: the week ahead

Date:

Weak high pressure is currently affecting the area, while weak low pressure is expected from Wednesday. Thin layers of dust will also be present in the atmosphere at times.

Today, intervals of increased medium and high cloud are expected, with isolated and mostly light showers possible, occasionally accompanied by thunder.

Winds will blow mainly from the northeast to southeast, and from the southwest to northwest in the island’s western and southwestern areas, light to moderate, at 3 to 4 Beaufort. By late afternoon, winds will shift generally southwesterly to northwesterly at the same strength. The sea will be calm to slightly rough.

Temperatures will reach around 30°C inland, about 29°C on the southern and eastern coasts, 27°C on the western and northern coasts, and 22°C in the higher mountains.

Tonight, initially increased medium and high clouds will gradually give way to mostly clear skies. Winds will be mainly northwesterly to northeasterly and southeasterly on the northern coasts, light at 3 Beaufort. The sea will remain calm to slightly rough. Temperatures will drop to around 15°C inland and in the mountains, and about 18°C on the coasts.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, most areas will see mainly clear weather with occasional cloud, though isolated showers may develop over the mountains in the afternoon.

Thursday will bring periods of increased cloud cover, expected to produce isolated showers and possibly a thunderstorm, mainly over the mountains and locally in inland or eastern regions.

Temperatures through Thursday will remain largely unchanged, staying noticeably above average for this time of year.
