Tear gas and stun grenades used
Clashes broke out at Heraklion airport in Crete on Monday 8 December 2025 as farmers attempted to break through police barriers to block the facility.
According to ERT, police responded with tear gas and stun grenades when protesters tried to force their way past the cordon.
The incident is part of ongoing farmer protests across Greece over agricultural policy.
Earlier in Karditsa
Farmers from the E-65 blockade arrived outside Agriculture Minister Kostas Tsaras’s office in Karditsa with tractors. They demanded his removal, threatening to bring more tractors if unmet.
SKAI reported at least 25 tractors lined up, but police vans blocked both access roads. Verbal tensions escalated, with farmers saying “Police vans are the government’s answer to dialogue – we’ll pass with tractors.”
In Lamia
At the Bralo blockade on the Athens-Lamia highway, farmers withdrew tractors from side roads after a one-hour closure as announced. Traffic now flows through side roads.
A general assembly is taking place today to decide next steps.
