Civil Defence ssues guidelines; KEN Limassol ready for use

Date:

Preventive measures in place

The Civil Defence in Cyprus has confirmed that the KEN Limassol shelter has not been used so far, following the recent drone incident at the Akrotiri base. Panagiotis Liasides, Civil Defence spokesperson, emphasised that residents should remain calm while authorities monitor the situation.

Preparedness and local coordination

After the incident, Civil Defence teams were deployed immediately to the Akrotiri area and staffed the Limassol office. Residents were informed that they could use KEN Limassol if needed, though no one has arrived at the facility so far. Coordination has been maintained with the British Bases Administration, the Kourion Municipality, and the Akrotiri Deputy Mayor to ensure readiness.

Guidance for the public

Liasides noted that once sirens sound, the public should follow instructions regarding the nearest shelter. Civil Defence wardens are available to guide residents, while the SafeCY app provides shelter locations. If no nearby shelter exists, citizens are advised to find a secure indoor location and await further instructions. He reiterated that all current measures are preventive and there is no immediate cause for concern.
