Christodoulides visit to Kazakhstan begins with first direct flight

Presidential delegation departs from Larnaca

A new chapter in relations between Cyprus and Kazakhstan begins on Wednesday, as the first direct flight from Larnaca International Airport to Astana departs at 13:55, carrying President Nikos Christodoulides and the official delegation.

The visit marks the first time a Cypriot President travels to Kazakhstan, the largest country in Central Asia.

Official reception in Astana

President Christodoulides is expected to be officially received at 21:15 local time upon arrival.

The visit aims to strengthen bilateral relations and expand cooperation between the two countries across multiple strategic sectors.

Agreements across key sectors

On Wednesday, the programme includes a meeting with the President of Kazakhstan, alongside the signing of Memoranda of Understanding covering higher education, research, culture, sport, ICT, cybersecurity and e-governance.

A separate agreement will also be signed between the Cyprus and Kazakhstan Chambers of Commerce, further boosting economic cooperation.

The President will also inaugurate the Embassy of the Republic of Cyprus in Astana, marking a significant diplomatic milestone.

High-level delegation

President Christodoulides is accompanied by a high-level delegation, including Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos, Energy Minister Michalis Damianos, Deputy Minister to the President Irene Piki, Deputy Minister of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy Nicodemos Damianou, and Deputy Government Spokesperson Yiannis Antoniou.

The delegation is expected to focus on expanding Cyprus’ international partnerships and strengthening economic and technological cooperation with Kazakhstan.
