Christodoulides received Order of Friendship in Kazakhstan

The President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, has been awarded the Order of Friendship during his first official visit by a Cypriot head of state to Astana.

The award marks a significant diplomatic moment, highlighting strengthened ties between Cyprus and Kazakhstan as both sides commit to deepening bilateral cooperation.

Historic visit to Astana

The Order of Friendship was presented during a special ceremony held at the Palace of Independence in Astana, in the presence of Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

Christodoulides was awarded the Order of Friendship, First Class, in recognition of his contribution to strengthening relations between the two countries.

Kazakhstan’s President described the visit as a historic milestone, noting that it is the first official visit by a Cypriot President to the country. He praised Christodoulides for his commitment to international cooperation and for strengthening political dialogue between the two states.

Stronger bilateral relations

Tokayev said it reflects the spirit of trust and cooperation that defines relations between Cyprus and Kazakhstan.

He added that Christodoulides is viewed as a leader with a broad vision of international affairs and a reliable partner in advancing mutual interests.

The Cypriot President’s visit is expected to enhance diplomatic and economic ties, with both sides expressing willingness to expand cooperation in areas of shared interest.

Recognition of diplomatic contribution

The awarding of the Order of Friendship also highlights Cyprus’ broader foreign policy engagement and its efforts to strengthen relations beyond the European region.

Kazakhstan’s leadership emphasised that Christodoulides’ personal contribution has helped build trust, reinforce dialogue, and promote practical cooperation between the two countries.

The Cypriot President expressed appreciation for the honour, underlining Cyprus’ commitment to further developing relations with Kazakhstan.

New momentum in Cyprus–Kazakhstan ties

Officials from both countries said the visit opens a new chapter in bilateral relations, with expectations of enhanced cooperation in diplomacy, trade and international engagement.

The ceremony concluded with both leaders reaffirming their commitment to strengthening ties and exploring new opportunities for collaboration.

The Order of Friendship is seen as a symbolic step reflecting growing political goodwill between Nicosia and Astana.
