Meeting at the Presidential Palace

Welcoming the delegation, President Christodoulides said he was “enthusiastic” about recent announcements, describing them as a clear vote of confidence in Cyprus’ EEZ and the wider Eastern Mediterranean energy prospects.

He added that there are expectations for further announcements in the near future regarding additional exploration blocks.

Focus on offshore developments

During the energy talks, the President said discussions are ongoing for additional areas of activity, expressing hope that new announcements will follow soon.

He described ExxonMobil and Qatar Energy’s involvement in Cyprus’ EEZ as one of the most significant developments for the country’s energy sector.

ExxonMobil highlights exploration progress

ExxonMobil Vice President John Ardill said the company’s involvement in Cyprus began in 2017, noting that achieving results is never guaranteed.

He highlighted the discovery of two offshore reservoirs, describing it as a significant outcome for Cyprus, while stressing that the next phase involves developing the discovered resources.

Energy cooperation continues

Officials said the project has been successful for all parties involved, with further development work expected as Cyprus continues to advance its offshore energy programme.

The energy talks underline ongoing cooperation between Cyprus and major international energy companies in the Eastern Mediterranean region.
