The Cyprus Consumers Association conducted a price survey from December 10-19 across Nicosia supermarkets, covering 34 food and drink items. Three price checks calculated costs for “rich” (34 items), “economic” (19 items), and “low-income” (11 items) Christmas tables for 4- and 6-person families.
The “rich” Christmas table costs €160 for four people and €227 for six, unchanged from 2024. The economic version totals €98 for four and €129 for six.
Price rises hit low-income families
Low-income Christmas table sees 9% increase from last year, reaching €33 for four people and €49 for six. Survey adds 5% for extras like electricity and utilities.
Lamb prices dropped 12% by December 19 due to promotions, but cucumbers rose 82%, tomatoes 65%, and potatoes 10% on average.
Stable prices for premium options
“Rich” table prices held steady despite fluctuations. Most promotions persisted throughout. Christmas sweets showed wide variations due to differing ingredients and weights, making comparisons unreliable.
