A Chloraka road rage incident turned violent on Wednesday night, when two men exited their vehicle with weapons and attacked another driver.
Paphos police arrested a 39-year-old man to assist with investigations into a case involving assault, causing actual bodily harm, possession of an offensive weapon, criminal damage, threats, and conspiracy.
According to police, the incident occurred at around 10:00 p.m. in Chloraka. Three men- aged 34, 40, and 46- were travelling in a car when, under circumstances still being investigated, a 39-year-old driver following them overtook their vehicle and deliberately collided with the front right section. He then brought his vehicle to a stop in front of theirs, blocking the road.
The 39-year-old and his 36-year-old passenger exited their vehicle- the former reportedly holding a metal chain, the latter a metal pipe- and approached the other car.
In an attempt to escape, the 34-year-old driver reversed and crashed into the wall of a nearby residence. At that point, the suspects allegedly attacked him, striking his arm and leg with the objects. The 39-year-old also allegedly issued threats during the altercation.
The 34-year-old sustained bruising to his leg. The 40-year-old passenger was also injured during the vehicle collisions and was taken to Paphos General Hospital for treatment.
The 39-year-old suspect was arrested shortly before 1:30 a.m. His passenger is is still wanted by police.
The Central Police Station of Paphos is handling the assault case, while Paphos Traffic Police are investigating the two traffic collisions involved.
