A chance of rain in Cyprus is expected today, mainly during the afternoon, according to the Meteorological Department. Periods of increased mid and high cloud will be observed, with isolated showers and possibly an isolated thunderstorm developing, particularly over the mountains and southern areas.
Weak low pressure continues to affect the region, and thin dust may be present in the atmosphere at times. Winds will blow mainly south-westerly to north-westerly, light to moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort, and locally up to strong, 4 to 5 Beaufort, on the southern coasts. The sea will be slightly rough to rough in the south, west and north, and calm to slightly rough in the east.
Temperatures will rise to around 29°C inland and on the south-eastern and eastern coasts, around 27°C on the remaining coasts, and 21°C in the higher mountains.
Tonight, skies will be mostly clear. Winds will gradually become downslope and light, around 3 Beaufort, while the sea will be calm to slightly rough. Temperatures will drop to around 16°C inland, 18°C on the coasts and 11°C in the higher mountains.
On Wednesday, the weather will initially be mostly clear, though increasing local cloud after midday may bring isolated showers or an isolated thunderstorm, mainly in the mountains and some inland areas.
Thursday will bring intervals of increased cloud, with isolated showers or a thunderstorm possible in the afternoon, particularly over the mountains and inland. On Friday, skies will again be mostly clear, with locally increased cloud later in the day.
Temperatures are not expected to change significantly through Friday, remaining close to or slightly above the average climatic values for the season.
