Two men, aged 43 and 53, were arrested by the police after their attempt to escape resulted in their car plunging into a four-metre-deep ravine in the Kalo Chorio – Aradippou area of Larnaca district.
According to a spokesperson from the Police Communication Branch, members of the force in Nicosia received information regarding the whereabouts of a 43-year-old man who was wanted for failing to appear before the Nicosia Court for the trial of a theft case.
An arrest warrant had been issued against the 43-year-old, and police intelligence indicated that he had been seen in the Kalo Chorio area of Larnaca district.
Police officers arrived in the area at around 3:30 pm on Thursday, 20 February. Upon spotting the suspect, he attempted to flee in his vehicle, driving through a secondary road network.
Officers pursued the 43-year-old’s vehicle until, at one point, he appeared to lose control, causing the car to fall into a ravine approximately four metres deep in the area between Kalo Chorio and Aradippou.
During police investigations, a 53-year-old man was found as a passenger in the suspect’s vehicle. Neither of them was injured in the crash.
Inside the 43-year-old’s vehicle, police discovered several car batteries and credit cards belonging to other individuals. Authorities are investigating whether these items were stolen, as the two men failed to provide satisfactory explanations for their lawful possession.
Both men were arrested for the flagrant offence of unlawful possession of property.
They are expected to be brought before the Larnaca District Court later today for the issuance of remand orders.
