President Nikos Christodoulides is preparing a limited Cabinet reshuffle, with changes expected to be announced in the coming days while, as in previous reshuffles, he continues to keep his plans closely guarded.
The President has neither confirmed nor denied reports that he intends to make minor changes to his government, maintaining his usual stance of avoiding public comment on reshuffle speculation.
One confirmed departure is Agriculture Minister Maria Panayiotou, who will leave the Cabinet after a tenure marked by a series of major challenges, including wildfires, water shortages and the outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease.
Panayiotou had already accepted an appointment outside government and is expected to begin teaching in schools from September.
Academic background
Maria Panayiotou graduated with distinction in History and Archaeology from the University of Cyprus in 2004. In 2006, she completed an MPhil in Modern East Mediterranean History at the University of Birmingham.
In 2017, she earned a PhD in Modern and Contemporary History from the University of Cyprus, specialising in economic history.
Other names linked to changes
According to a report by Phileleftheros, Transport Minister Alexis Vafeades and Deputy Minister of Tourism Costas Koumis have also been mentioned as possible candidates for changes in the Cabinet reshuffle.
The Presidency has not commented on the reports, leaving speculation over the final composition of the government unresolved.
