Cabinet decisions on two proposed major organised commercial developments in eastern Limassol are expected to be sent to the House of Representatives, together with the relevant reasoning, Interior Minister Constantinos Ioannou has said.
He was responding to a parliamentary question by Limassol MP Marina Nicolaou.
According to the Interior Ministry’s response, dated 3 August, the two planning applications concern developments in the municipal districts of Mesa Geitonia and Agios Athanasios.
Both applications were submitted as deviations from the provisions of the Limassol Local Plan and are therefore being handled under legislation governing planning deviations.
Decisions taken in July
The Cabinet has already taken decisions on the two developments during its meeting on 16 July 2026.
The Interior Minister said that, under the relevant legislation, each decision must be published in the Official Gazette within one month of being taken and sent to Parliament for information, accompanied by the relevant reasoning.
The decisions are expected to be forwarded to the House in due course, allowing MPs to be informed about the Government’s position and intentions regarding the Limassol shopping centres.
Local objections considered
Responding to concerns previously raised by local authorities, residents and professional bodies, Ioannou said these views had been taken into account during the process.
The two applications were examined by the Planning Authority, which submitted reports to the Planning Committee for Planning Deviations (SYMEPA).
SYMEPA held public hearings in October 2025, during which the positions of the bodies involved and those who had submitted objections were presented.

Air quality concerns
Regarding air quality, the Interior Ministry’s response states that any environmental impacts of the proposed developments have been examined by the Environmental Authority.
