The Cyprus Cabinet has approved a new holiday scheme for pensioners, aimed at supporting low-income retirees while also boosting tourism in rural areas.
The proposal was submitted by the Minister of Labour and Social Insurance, Marinos Mousiouttas and was approved during the Cabinet meeting on 13 May 2026.
What the scheme includes
Under the programme, eligible pensioners will receive a subsidised four-day stay, including three overnight stays with full board accommodation, at hotels in mountain resorts and Pyrgos Tyllirias.
The scheme will run in two periods:
- 5 June – 31 July 2026
- 1 September – 30 October 2026
or until the allocated budget is exhausted.
Support for tourism and rural economy
Authorities said the holiday scheme for pensioners aims to improve the quality of life for low-income retirees by offering access to affordable leisure opportunities.
At the same time, it is designed to strengthen Cyprus’ tourism product and support employment in mountainous and rural communities.
Boost for mountain regions
The programme is expected to benefit hotels in the island’s mountainous areas, helping sustain jobs and economic activity in regions that rely heavily on seasonal tourism.
Further details on eligibility criteria and application procedures are expected to be announced in the coming days.
