Byron weather system brings storms and first snowfall

Dust and strong winds expected

According to the Weather Service, thin dust and strong winds are expected over the coming hours, with a chance of showers. The Byron weather system Cyprus will begin influencing conditions from Friday night, with intermittent dust present in the atmosphere.

Today’s weather outlook

A weak high-pressure system is temporarily affecting the area. Localised cloud cover will increase at times, with isolated and mainly light showers possible. Winds will mainly blow from the northeast to southeast, light to moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort, and briefly strong at 4 to 5 Beaufort in the north, east and south.
At sea, conditions in the west will be calm to slightly rough, while elsewhere they will be slightly rough and temporarily rough in the north and east.
Temperatures will reach around 22°C inland, and at the northern and eastern coasts, around 24°C at the southern and western coasts, and 12°C in the higher mountains.

Tonight’s conditions

Tonight, the weather will initially be mostly clear, but cloud cover will gradually increase. Winds will continue from the northeast to southeast, light to moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort, and moderate to strong at 4 to 5 Beaufort in windward coastal areas.
The sea will generally be slightly rough, becoming locally rough in the north and east.
Temperatures will fall to around 9°C inland, 14°C on the coasts and 5°C in the higher mountains.

Friday outlook

On Friday, the weather will initially be partly cloudy and at times mostly cloudy, with isolated showers expected. Gradually, conditions will become mostly cloudy, and local showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected during the evening.

Weekend weather and first snowfall

On Saturday, the weather will be mostly cloudy, with local showers and isolated thunderstorms expected from midday onwards. Snow or sleet may fall on the highest Troodos peaks, mainly during the evening.
On Sunday, the weather will again be mostly cloudy with local showers and isolated thunderstorms. Snow or sleet may fall on the highest Troodos peaks.
Temperatures will show little change until Friday, remaining slightly above average. On Saturday, temperatures will drop, with little change on Sunday, returning to close to climatological norms.
