“Byron” brings rain and possible snow to Cyprus

A weak high-pressure system currently affects the area, but low-pressure system “Byron” will reach Cyprus from Friday evening, bringing unstable weather through the weekend.

Today (Friday)

Partly cloudy skies with isolated showers possible. Winds mainly north-easterly to south-easterly, moderate to strong 4–5 Beaufort, occasionally very strong 5–6 Beaufort locally. Sea slightly rough to rough. Temperature rises to around 23°C inland and on the coast, 12°C in the higher mountains.

Tonight mainly clear with occasional increased cloud. Winds north-easterly to easterly, light to moderate 3–4 Beaufort, locally moderate to strong on windward coasts. Temperature falls to about 9°C inland, 15°C on the coast and 5°C in the mountains.

Saturday

Mainly cloudy with local rain and isolated thunderstorms developing gradually, especially from midday onwards. Snow or sleet possible on the highest Troodos peaks, mainly during the evening and night. Temperature drops slightly.

Sunday and Monday

Mainly cloudy with periods of local rain and isolated thunderstorms. Snow or sleet again possible on the highest Troodos peaks. Temperature continues to fall and will settle close to or slightly below seasonal averages by Monday.

Dust will remain suspended in the atmosphere at intervals throughout the period.
