Buffer Zone: Police officers injured in gunfire and chase incident

Date:

Around 8 p.m. last night, while members of the Anti-Poaching Squad were conducting a patrol in the Potamia area, they spotted three vehicles moving through the buffer zone.

Squad members attempted to stop the vehicles when one driver accelerated and drove toward a police officer who had exited the patrol vehicle to stop them.

The officer discharged his service weapon, aiming at the vehicle’s tyres, but the driver of the first vehicle, along with a second vehicle, managed to escape into the buffer zone.

Later, an attempt was made to stop the third vehicle, but the driver also accelerated toward the officer. The police officer managed to re-enter the patrol vehicle, but the suspect’s car collided with the front of the police vehicle. Gunshots were fired at the tyres of the third vehicle, but the driver also escaped into the buffer zone.

Three members of the Anti-Poaching Squad visited Nicosia General Hospital, where they underwent medical examinations and were granted sick leave due to injuries.
