British destroyer HMS Dragon en route to Cyprus

The British destroyer HMS Dragon has departed Portsmouth in southern England, heading to Cyprus to support the defence of UK military bases on the island.

Advanced air and missile defence

HMS Dragon is regarded as one of Europe’s most advanced air and missile defence vessels. Its primary mission is to protect against airborne threats, including fighter jets, drones, and ballistic missiles.

State-of-the-art systems

The destroyer is equipped with the Sea Viper air defence system, carrying Aster 15 and Aster 30 missiles, and features the advanced SAMPSON radar, which allows simultaneous tracking and engagement of multiple targets.

Additional capabilities

HMS Dragon also carries a 114mm gun, close-in weapon systems, and has the capacity to deploy a Wildcat helicopter for surveillance and anti-submarine operations.
