The British Bases Police arrested two men on 3 February for stealing parts from decommissioned buses in Ormideia, reportedly worth around €10,000 and intended for sale as scrap metal.
Arrest details
Police identified the suspects – one Greek Cypriot and one Greek national – during a patrol outside a fenced area storing retired buses. Officers discovered the stolen parts inside the men’s vehicle.
The two will appear before the British Bases Court in Dekeleia on 3 March, facing theft charges.
Police statement
Deputy Assistant Police Commissioner of Dekeleia, Markos Petrou, said the arrest was possible thanks to prompt and effective police action during routine patrols. He added that metal theft remains a serious problem, and this case involved a particularly high-value haul.
Petrou emphasised that “such cases send a clear message that the police maintain constant readiness to combat crime.”
Additional findings
Authorities also found a small quantity of Class A drugs in the suspects’ possession, believed to be for personal use.
