British Bases police arrested a 37-year-old Greek Cypriot from Akrotiri on 8 January over multiple house theft cases, malicious damage and thefts in the area. Investigations linked him to 12 cases in recent months, leading to his detention and recovery of stolen property.
Residents had grown alarmed by the incidents. Theft ranks among the top five priorities for Bases Police due to its direct effect on community safety and quality of life.
Police-community cooperation
Detective Inspector Yiannos Karkanias of the Crime Detection Department stressed close collaboration with locals as crucial. He stated: “We identified these cases as a critical community concern requiring immediate action.”
“Through effective intelligence gathering and targeted coordination, vital evidence secured the suspect’s arrest and return of stolen items,” he added.
Bases Police urge preventive property measures and reporting of suspicious activity, reaffirming commitment to public safety. No court date set yet.
