Gunmen traveled to Philippines before attack
Father Sajid Akram (50, Indian origin) and son Naveed (24, Australian) targeted Jewish Hanukkah celebration at Bondi Beach Sunday, killing 15 in Australia’s worst mass shooting in 30 years. PM links them to Islamic State ideology; both recently visited Philippines insurgency island; Sajid on Indian passport, Naveed Australian.
The 50-year-old was killed exchanging gunfire with Australian police on Sunday. His 24-year-old son Naveed Akram, the second alleged shooter, is in custody at a hospital and is expected to face significant charges.

11 identified: 10yo Matilda (with family); Rabbi Eli Schlanger (41, event organizer, father of 5); Holocaust survivor Alex Kleytman (87, shielded wife); Dan Elkayam (27, footballer); Rabbi Yaakov Levitan (39, Chabad manager); Reuven Morrison (62, philanthropist); Peter Meagher (ex-detective photographer); Tibor Weitzen (78, “sweet grandpa”); Marika Pogány (82, Auschwitz survivor’s kin).
As of Tuesday evening Australian time, 22 patients remain under care across Sydney hospitals for Bondi Beach attack injuries. Three in critical condition, six critical but stable, 13 stable – including two children.
Sydney mourns, lights turn white
Hundreds lay flowers at memorials. Sydney switches Christmas lights white until Dec 20 “out of respect,” urging care via helplines.
