Bomb incident in Monaco: Ukrainian target holds Cypriot citizenship

Date:

An explosion at a residential building in Monaco on Monday evening injured three people, including Ukrainian businessman and investor Vadym Iermolaiev, according to local and French media reports.

The explosion occurred around 21:00 on Révérend-Père-Louis-Frolla street, near the border between Monaco and the French town of Beausoleil.

Authorities said the explosive device had been placed at the entrance of a three-storey residential building.

High-profile victim among the injured

French media identified one of the injured as Vadym Iermolaiev, a Ukrainian-born businessman and real estate investor originally from Dnipro.

He is known as the founder of Alef Group, with investments spanning real estate, manufacturing, agriculture, construction materials and medical technology.

Iermolaiev reportedly obtained Cypriot citizenship in 2019 after renouncing his Ukrainian nationality, and later became subject to Ukrainian sanctions.

Manhunt underway

Police have launched a manhunt for a suspect captured on CCTV shortly after the explosion in Monaco.

The suspect was reportedly dressed in dark clothing, wearing a bucket hat, white trainers and carrying a shoulder bag. He was later tracked towards Beausoleil before disappearing from surveillance.

Victims in hospital

All three injured individuals were transported to hospitals in Nice, where they remain under medical care.

Authorities confirmed that all victims are still alive, though one woman is in critical condition after suffering severe injuries.

Investigation ongoing

Forensic teams worked through the night at the scene, while explosives experts continued examinations on Tuesday morning as the area remained sealed off.

Officials are still determining the exact nature of the explosive device.
