The actor who left a lasting mark on decades of theatre, cinema, and television has passed away at the age of 79.
Sadness spreads through the artistic world at the news of the death of Nikos Galanos, one of the most popular leading men of Greek cinema, television, and theatre. The actor passed away at the age of 79, leaving behind a career full of images, roles, and memories.

Nikos Galanos was born in Athens on 20 December 1945, with his real name being Nikos Soupionas. He studied acting at Kostis Michailidis’ drama school and made his first appearance on the big screen in 1962 with a small role in the film Orgi.

The 1960s saw him participating in a series of films from the era, such as I Kravgi, Ta dakrya mou einai kafta, O Ouranokatevatos, I Leoforos tou Misous, Panikos, Pethaino kathe ximeroma. At the same time, he made his theatrical debut alongside Jenny Karezi.
His breakthrough came with the film Ena asteio koritsi (1970), in which he co-starred with Aliki Vougiouklaki, playing Alekos Venieris. The film established Galanos as a matinée idol and led to leading roles in works such as Oratotis Miden, Astrapogiannos, I Aliki Diktator, and I Amartia tis Omorfias.
In 1974, he made his television debut with the series Oi Dikaioi, and in the following years he cemented his presence in numerous popular series, leaving his mark on television landscapes of different eras and styles: To Taxidi, Eros kai Epanastasi, Oi Frouroi tis Achaias, Manto Mavrogenous, I Lampsi, To Kleidi, An m’ agapas, Apagorevmeni Agapi, Klemmena Oneira, Eros Meta, and more recently, I Gi tis Elias.
His filmography is extensive, with dozens of television appearances, including series such as O Thanatos tou Timotheou Konsta, Kafeneio Emigrek, Tmima Ithos, I Eliza kai oi Alloi, Mi mou les antio, Oi Istories tou Astynomou Beka, 4, 9 Mines, Poios mas pianei!.
