Avlona buffer zone violation – Illegal entry reported

Date:

Avlona Community Leader Menelaos Savva reported another buffer zone status violation to “Tomes sta Gegonota.” Around midday, on Sunday, three Turks with a tractor and one with a truck entered illegally next to a United Nations post.

They plowed the area for about three hours without interference despite proximity to the UN post. They left when rain started.

Community leader’s response

Savva monitored the activity throughout and later contacted the United Nations, urging them to drive the intruders away.

He emphasized this is not isolated but part of daily, ongoing violations. For ten years, Avlona Community Council has fought for residents’ cultivation rights on their properties.

Call for government action

Savva appealed to the Foreign Ministry to take a more active role and demand the UN protect property rights in the buffer zone.

He stressed the UN must ensure no continued violations against legitimate owners. Turkish buffer zone violations occur daily.
