Avakas Gorge closed until further notice

Date:

The Department of Forests announces that the popular Avakas Gorge trail in Akamas National Forest Park will be closed to visitors starting Saturday 6 December 2025.

The decision follows heavy rainfall that has increased water flow, made surfaces extremely slippery and raised the risk of rockfalls and landslides.

The gorge will remain closed until conditions are deemed completely safe.

The Department apologises for any inconvenience and stresses that the closure is necessary to protect public safety. A new announcement will be issued once the trail reopens.
