A tragic incident unfolded in the early hours of Christmas Day in Nicosia when a fire broke out in a storage room on the roof of an apartment building. Police and firefighters rushed to the scene shortly after midnight to extinguish the blaze. During the investigation, authorities discovered a charred body inside the storage area, unidentified at the time.
The Nicosia Police Department lead inquiries into the victim’s identity and circumstances. Mechanical and Electrical Service teams examined the site. Questions persist on the fire’s cause.
Autopsy findings
The legal autopsy, conducted by pathologists Angeliki Papetta and Orthodoxos Orthodoxou, determined that soot inhalation caused the death. Blood and dental samples were taken for identification. Lab results remain pending, with DNA tests likely needed due to the body’s unrecognizable state.
Authorities face challenges in locating family members for comparison. Fire origin investigations continue amid unanswered questions.
