The Bank of Cyprus has issued a warning over ongoing phone scam incidents, urging customers to remain vigilant against fraudsters posing as PayPal or other legitimate organisations.
In a notice to customers, the bank stressed that neither the Bank of Cyprus, PayPal nor any legitimate organisation will ever ask for sensitive banking information or request money transfers over the phone.
What fraudsters may ask for
The bank warned customers to be especially cautious if callers claim there is suspicious activity on a PayPal or bank account.
Customers are advised to ignore requests for:
- 1Bank login credentials
- One-Time Passwords (OTP) or verification codes
- Full payment card details
- Installation of remote access software or applications
- Transfers of money to a so-called “safe account”
What customers should do
The Bank of Cyprus advises customers to end such calls immediately and never disclose passwords, card details, PINs, OTPs or verification codes received on their mobile phones.
Customers should also never install remote access software at the request of unknown callers.
Anyone who has shared personal or banking information, or approved a transaction during or after such a call, is urged to contact the Bank of Cyprus immediately using its official customer support numbers.
