Authorities investigate deaths of two children as possible suffocation is examined

Date:

Shock and deep sorrow have been caused by the unspeakable tragedy that unfolded at midday on Sunday in the British Sovereign Base Area of Dhekelia, where two children, aged 8 and 10, were found unconscious inside a parked car outside a residence.

Ambulances and police forces rushed immediately to the scene in the village of Xylofagou. However, it was already too late for the two children, as their deaths were confirmed.

The circumstances under which the tragedy occurred remain unclear so far. Initial indications are directing the investigation towards the possibility of suffocation, although there has been no official confirmation from the authorities.

The British Bases Police have cordoned off the area outside the residence where the tragedy occurred and are carrying out intensive investigations, collecting evidence and statements in order to determine how the two minor children ended up inside the vehicle and what exactly preceded the incident.
