August proved to be a historic month for Cyprus, as average rainfall reached 30.0 mm, the highest recorded figure for the month since records began in 1902.
According to the Meteorological Service, most of the rainfall was recorded within just three days.
Between 28 and 30 August, average rainfall reached 22.5 mm, accounting for 75% of the total rainfall recorded throughout the month.
Heavy storms drive record rainfall
The most significant day was 29 August, when intense and locally severe weather conditions affected Cyprus and contributed substantially to the unusually high rainfall totals.
The weather events resulted in an exceptional August rainfall pattern, with the latest figure standing out in a dataset spanning more than 120 years.
The new record makes August 2026 the wettest August recorded in Cyprus since 1902.
