Araghchi: US using Shahed type drones for attacks in Gulf countries

Date:

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Iran has information suggesting that the United States and Israel are launching attacks from specific locations against Arab countries in West Asia.

Speaking in an interview with the pan Arab outlet Al Araby Al Jadeed, Araghchi questioned claims that recent attacks against Arab states in the region were carried out by Iran.

He said Tehran is ready to meet with regional countries and establish a joint committee to investigate the nature of the targets that were attacked.

According to Araghchi, Iranian strikes have targeted only American bases and interests, describing them as retaliation for attacks launched from those facilities.

The Iranian minister also claimed that the United States has developed a drone similar to the Iranian Shahed 136, called “LUCAS”, which he said has been used to strike targets in Arab countries.

He further accused Israel of targeting civilians in Arab states in an attempt to undermine relations between those countries and Iran.

Araghchi added that Iran has not targeted civilian or residential areas in the region so far.

He said contacts are continuing with neighbouring countries including Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Oman, while regional states are mediating in efforts to reduce tensions and propose ideas to end the war.

Referring to the Strait of Hormuz, Araghchi said it remains open to all vessels except those from the United States and countries allied with Washington.

He also described the situation inside Iran as stable, saying there have been no defections within state or military institutions and that Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei is in good health and in full control.

Meanwhile, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said that a recent drone attack near Riyadh and in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia was not linked to Iran, according to the semi official Fars News Agency.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry also said Araghchi spoke by phone with French Foreign Minister Jean Noel Barrot on Saturday night to discuss the situation in the region.
