Incidents were reported on Sunday (September 6) during and after the APOEL-AEL match at GSP Stadium.
After the match, police arrested a person against whom evidence had been secured indicating that they threw a battery from the AEL stand towards the stand occupied by opposing supporters. The object struck a 10-year-old girl on the head while she was attending the match with her father.
The girl was taken to Nicosia General Hospital, where she received first aid before being discharged.
The APOEL-AEL match was also preceded by incidents involving supporters outside the stadium.
Objects thrown before kick-off
Before the match began, during the procession of APOEL supporters towards the stadium, a number of fans stopped and began throwing objects towards a group of AEL supporters who were in the stadium’s northern car park.
Police officers intervened immediately and restored order.
During entrance checks at the stadium, another person was arrested after a flare was found in their possession.
Two AEL supporters denied entry
Two AEL supporters were also denied entry to the stadium after allegedly pushing and knocking down part of the metal security barrier.
In a separate incident, a member of the riot police unit was attacked by a group of AEL supporters and injured.
The officer was taken to Apollonion Hospital, where he received first aid before being discharged.
