Antigoni: Powerful figures in Cyprus call for the withdrawal of her song

Date:

They speak of an offensive portrayal of our country and a humiliating music video.

A major controversy erupted as soon as the music video for the song “Jalla” was released. Powerful and well-known figures on the island have called, through an open letter, for the song to be withdrawn from the competition.

“It constitutes an unacceptable portrayal of Cyprus that offends our country, our traditions, and our aesthetic values,” they write, among other points.

They go so far as to describe the spectacle of the music video as “humiliating.” In their letter, they call for the withdrawal of both the song and the music video, and also demand that the production cost be made public, as well as the identities of those who selected and approved the specific song.
