Christodoulides points to further developments
President Nikos Christodoulides said further announcements are expected in the coming days regarding Cyprus talks developments, pointing to increased diplomatic activity surrounding the Cyprus issue.
Speaking on Tuesday morning following a memorial service for those who fell during the 1974 coup, Christodoulides was questioned about the renewed activity surrounding the Cyprus issue in recent days.
“There are several developments. In the coming days, we will hear more news that demonstrates the ongoing activity,” the President said.
Christodoulides repeatedly stressed that the objective remains the resumption of negotiations leading to a solution that is fully compatible with the values and law of the European Union.
‘The protagonists will make the announcements’
“The announcements will be made by the protagonists. We should let them make the announcements themselves,” Christodoulides said, adding that there were indications that “with a plan and careful preparation, we have achieved results”.
His comments come amid Cyprus talks developments and increased diplomatic efforts aimed at restarting negotiations on the long-standing Cyprus issue.
Brief discussion with Hakan Fidan
The President was also asked about his meeting with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan on Monday.
Christodoulides confirmed that a brief discussion took place, prompted by recent developments and the initiatives of the European Union and the UN Secretary-General.
