Police expect to complete examinations requested by the Law Office in relation to the Aglantzia fatal crash within February. The collision claimed the life of 20-year-old Kyriakos Antoniou from Agios Dometios.
Police spokesperson Vyronas Vyronos told “Protoselido” that once examinations conclude, investigators will return the case file to the Law Office so the case can proceed.
Delay attributed to specialised tests
Responding to questions about the delay, Vyronos said such concerns are understandable, noting that more specialised examinations often take place in various cases, not only road collisions, and these require time. He added that this is not the first time a case has taken so long and confirmed that authorities are carrying out all necessary examinations, with the file expected to return to the Law Office by the end of the month.
Authorities had initially sent the case file to the Law Office last November together with specific recommendations. The Law Office later returned it to investigators for further handling. Following submission of an expert report, officials must now complete a full evaluation of all evidence before deciding whether to proceed with criminal prosecution against the driver involved.
Details of the July collision
The fatal incident occurred on 29 July 2025 on Larnakos Avenue in Aglantzia, on the carriageway leading from the University of Cyprus roundabout towards Nicosia.
According to the evidence under examination, the young driver attempted to turn right at traffic lights on Larnakos Avenue. At the same moment, a vehicle travelling in the opposite direction – from Nicosia towards the University of Cyprus roundabout – driven by a 24-year-old with a 23-year-old passenger, collided violently with the 20-year-old’s car.
