Agios Dometios checkpoint gets €435k EU upgrade

Date:

The European Union announced Thursday it is fully funding a €435,000 expansion of the busy Agios Dometios checkpoint through the UNDP Local Infrastructure Facility (LIF).

Two contracts were signed for excavations, paving, electromechanical installations and landscaping inside the UN buffer zone.

Works start immediately and finish by end of January 2026, with disruption kept to a minimum.

The Commission calls Agios Dometios “one of the island’s busiest crossings” with steadily rising traffic. The upgrade aims to cut queues, boost safety and strengthen people-to-people contact across Cyprus.
