A 47-year-old patient at Dafni Psychiatric Hospital fatally attacked a 44-year-old woman in the early hours of Wednesday, February 19, using a shard of broken glass. Greek police have launched a hunt for the perpetrator, with his arrest expected within hours.
The brutal crime took place between 03:00 and 04:00 AM inside the hospital. According to Michalis Giannakos, president of POEDIN, the 47-year-old suspect had been hospitalised since November and had a history of violent offences. In the past, he had attacked and killed another woman in Corfu using a makeshift fork. Following that murder, he was deemed not criminally responsible and was institutionalised in a psychiatric facility, according to ERT.
The 44-year-old victim had been admitted to Dafni the night before, reportedly due to substance abuse issues. Investigators believe that the suspect confused her with his previous victim, leading to the deadly assault.
Authorities are on high alert as they continue their search for the suspect, who remains at large. His capture is considered imminent as the investigation intensifies.
