Prominent lawyer and politician Efstathios Efstathiou has passed away at the age of 89, according to RIK.
Born in Morphou in 1935, he studied law and economics.
Efstathiou served as a Member of Parliament for Nicosia for two terms, from 1985 to 1996, representing EDEK, of which he was a member.
He practised law for 62 years, taking on and successfully handling significant legal cases.
He was the father of Kostis Efstathiou, an independent socialist MP, Giannos Efstathiou, an economist, and Agni Efstathiou, a judge.
The President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, expressed sorrow over the death of Efstathios Efstathiou, stating:
“It is with sadness that I learned of the passing of Efstathios Efstathiou, a distinguished gentleman and lawyer who served his country from numerous important platforms. Efstathios Efstathiou was a successful lawyer for over 60 years and, for decades, an active and ideological politician who contributed to the nation and society during challenging times for our country. One of our most distinguished citizens, he will leave an indelible mark through his contributions. On behalf of the Government and myself, I extend my sincere condolences to his family.”
His funeral service took place today at Agios Georgios church, in Latsia.
