Date:

The Green Party – Citizens’ Cooperation has welcomed the temporary suspension of work on the planned Mitsero asphalt plant, calling on the Government to address the concerns of eight affected communities opposed to the project.

In a statement, the party said that, according to an announcement by the “Communities in Action” group, a meeting has been arranged at the Presidential Palace and installation work on the asphalt plant will remain suspended until it takes place.

Green Party seeks commitments to protect communities

The party described the temporary suspension as a positive development, but stressed that it expects the meeting to result in specific commitments to protect the affected communities.

The eight communities have raised concerns over the proposed installation of the asphalt plant in Mitsero.

The Green Party called on the Government to respond meaningfully to those concerns.
