Moldova will officially open its honorary consulate in Cyprus on Monday, 26 October, in Nicosia, during an official visit by Moldovan Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mihai Popșoi.

The opening ceremony will take place at 6pm at the Residence Venue, in the presence of Moldova’s Ambassador to Cyprus, Andrei Popov, and the country’s Honorary Consul, Ioannis Georgoulas.

Cyprus officials expected at ceremony

Representatives of Cyprus’ political leadership and state institutions are expected to attend, including Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos, alongside members of the diplomatic corps and representatives of other institutions.

The opening of the honorary consulate is intended to strengthen Moldova’s presence in Cyprus and further develop relations and contacts between the two countries.

Reception to mark 35 years of independence

An official reception marking Moldova’s National Day will follow the inauguration ceremony.

The event will mark 35 years since Moldova gained independence, adding a national celebration to the diplomatic programme.

The establishment of the honorary consulate is expected to provide a further point of contact between the two countries and support the development of bilateral relations.
