Elton John, Pharrell Williams, Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, and the band Kneecap have made the shortlist for the Best Original Song category at the 2025 Oscars.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the shortlists for several Oscar categories last night.
Nominees for Best Original Song
Elton John and Brandi Carlile’s “Never Too Late” from the documentary “Elton John: Never Too Late” and Kneecap’s “Sick In The Head” from their self-titled biographical film are among the contenders. Pharrell Williams’ “Piece By Piece” from the Lego biopic, Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross’ “Compress/Repress” from “Challengers”, Selena Gomez’s “Mi Camino” from “Emilia Pérez”, and Robbie Williams’ “Forbidden Road” from “Better Man” are also on the list.
Other contenders
Additional nominees include Aaron Pierre and Tiffany Boone’s “Tell Me It’s You” (Mufasa: The Lion King), Adrian Quesada and Abraham Alexander’s “Like a Bird” (Sing Sing), Auli’i Cravalho and Rachel House’s “Beyond” (Moana 2), and Camille, Zoe Saldana, and Carla Sofia Gascón’s “El Mal” (Emilia Pérez).
Kristen Wiig’s “Harper and Will Go West” (Will & Harper), Lainey Wilson’s “Out of Oklahoma” (Twisters), Maren Morris’ “Kiss the Sky” (The Wild Robot), and Saoirse Ronan and Nicholas Britell’s “Winter Coat” (Blitz) round out the shortlist.
