Cyprus will be represented at the military parade in Thessaloniki on 28 October by a National Guard commando unit and Cypriot veterans who fought during the 1974 Turkish invasion.
The Cypriot contingent will include a 24-member commando unit from the National Guard, alongside war veterans taking part in events marking Greece’s national anniversary.
When and where will the parade take place?
The military parade is scheduled for Wednesday, 28 October, at 11am along Thessaloniki’s Megalou Alexandrou Avenue.
The event will mark the anniversary of 28 October 1940, when Greece rejected the ultimatum issued by Fascist Italy, while also forming part of celebrations marking Thessaloniki’s liberation and honouring the city’s patron saint, Saint Demetrius.
The parade will be the highlight of the day’s commemorations.
Cypriot veterans to take part
Cypriot veterans who fought during the 1974 Turkish invasion will join the National Guard contingent.
At the 2024 parade, 12 members of the Pancyprian Organisation for the Rehabilitation of War Victims and Disabled Veterans took part.
Cyprus’ participation this year will once again highlight the island’s historical ties with Greece and the contribution of those who served during the invasion.
