Two National Guard personnel were taken to hospital after an armoured vehicle overturned on the Avgorou–Frenaros road shortly after midday on Tuesday.
According to an announcement by the Ministry of Defence, the VAB armoured personnel carrier was travelling near the industrial area when it veered off course and overturned in an adjacent field.
Two soldiers taken to hospital
The vehicle was carrying a driver and a co-driver, both contract soldiers serving in the National Guard.
The co-driver was injured in the accident and taken by ambulance to Paralimni General Hospital. The driver was also taken to hospital as a precaution.
Both underwent the necessary medical examinations and were subsequently discharged, the Ministry of Defence said.
The families of the two contract soldiers have been informed of the incident.
Accident circumstances under investigation
According to initial information, the vehicle’s axle broke while it was travelling, causing it to overturn and come to a stop in a nearby field.
The circumstances surrounding the accident are being investigated.
