Labour and Social Insurance Minister Marinos Mousiouttas said the government aims to submit the pension reform bill to the Cabinet soon, as discussions with social partners continued on Thursday.
Social partners submit proposals
Speaking at the start of a meeting of the Labour Advisory Council, Mousiouttas asked social partners to submit their proposals on the pension reform bill.
He said he would return with responses to their suggestions as discussions continue. The government has previously stated that it aims to implement the reform from January 1, 2027.
Mousiouttas also said Labour Advisory Council meetings would continue twice a week for the rest of October, on Mondays and Thursdays, except Monday, October 19.
Changes can be discussed after bill reaches Parliament
The minister said social partners would still have the opportunity to put forward proposals after the bill is submitted to Parliament.
According to Mousiouttas, their suggestions could initially be discussed through the Labour Advisory Council before being taken forward to Parliament.
The continued dialogue follows several rounds of discussions between the government and social partners on the pension reform.
Provident funds also under discussion
Mousiouttas said the technical committee dealing with provident funds will meet again on October 20 and 27.
Once the committee reaches an agreement on the framework for provident funds, the proposal will be brought before the Labour Advisory Council for discussion.
The provident funds form part of the second pillar of the proposed pension reform.
